THE NAVEL OF THE MOON

Location

To travel to Mexico, you’ll need to come to North America, where this great country is located. It borders the USA to the north and Guatemala and Belize to the southeast.

Weather

Mexico’s climate is subtropical (closer to the north) and tropical. As such, many of the best places to visit in Mexico are practically year-round.

If you consider natural disasters, there aren’t many. However, cyclones and hurricanes can occur in summer (more on the east coast). The wettest months are June, July, August, and September.

The seasons are divided into:

  • Winter (December 21 to March 20): +18, +27. The climate in winter is drier. In mountainous areas, the temperature can drop as low as +6 degrees.
  • Spring (March 20 to June 21): +25, +30. The weather is both wet and dry.
  • Summer (June 21 – September 22): +30, +35. The climate is more humid. Cyclones and hurricanes are possible.
  • Autumn (September 22 – December 21): +25, +35. The climate is drier than in the summer months.

*Temperature is given as the daytime average in Celsius degrees.

Culture and art

Mexico is blessed with a quirky and distinctive culture and art scene. It is a mixture of European (mainly Spanish) traditions and Native American customs and has turned Mexican culture into a colorful, unique, and distinctive one. Therefore, you will remember your travel to Mexico for a long time!

Famous civilizations like the Maya and Aztecs were born there. The composer Consuelo Velazquez, famous for his hit song “Bésame mucho,” and the amazing artist Frida Kahlo was born there.

A famous art form in Mexico is the mural, in which artists depict different situations in their lives or the country.

Mexican clothing such as sombreros, ponchos, and guaracís (sandals) are also trendy worldwide.

Regarding Mexican architecture, consider that it is already over 4,000 years old, and many surviving architectural sites are listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. Particularly noteworthy are the ancient structures of the advanced civilizations of Mesoamerica. We can also observe the Puuc (Mayan) and Oasisamerica (north of the country) styles in local architecture. During the colonial period, the Mexican Baroque-style buildings and cathedrals were more popular.

Cuisine

Mexican cuisine is one of the most popular and best-known in the world. It has even been added to the Unesco World Heritage List. Mexican cuisine is a fusion of the culinary recipes of local ancient Indian civilizations and Spanish cuisine. The dishes include hot peppers, spices, seasonings, tomatoes, corn, pumpkin, beans, avocados, chicken, meat, and other fruits and vegetables. Of course, we are all familiar with burritos, tacos, quesadillas, nachos, tortillas, guacamole, mole sauce, salsa, and more. And cacao and chocolate, loved by all, also have their origins in Mexico. Tequila, a popular alcoholic beverage, also comes to mind.

Do not forget that some Mexican dishes are spicy, including chili and jalapeno peppers.

Here are a few more popular Mexican dishes:

Mexico is a mosaic of different realities and beauties.

The tourist season

You can plan your travel to Mexico at almost any time of year. Most tourists enter the country between November and April. The sun is shining, and the water is at a comfortable temperature for swimming. The main thing is to know what kind of holiday you want.

May to October can be considered a low season because of the relatively heavy rainfall. Therefore, tourists are not abundant now, but the cost of many tourist products is also typical.

The northern part of Mexico should be visited from October to June, and the southern from November to May.

Beach holiday

November to May, depending on the coast. The Yucatan Peninsula is best visited from October to April, and Baja California from November to April. During summer, be vigilant on the east coast because of cyclones.

City holidays

All year round. But the best time to visit Mexico City and other cities in central Mexico is from October through April.

Natural holiday

November to April. Avoid the hot months and the rainy season. For trekking in Mexico, consider these spots: Copper Canyon and the Sierra de la Laguna.

Diving

February to June. Mexico has some beautiful coral reefs. Some suitable places for diving are Cozumel, Huatulco, Isla Mujeres, and Banco Chinchorro.

Festivals

Mexican festivals take place at different times of the year. The most famous are Carnival (February – March), Formula 1 (October), Day of the Dead (November), and Night of the Radishes (December).

Holidays with children

Mexico is well suited to holidays with children, whether on the beach (Riviera Maya resort, for example) or visiting various excursions. There are good family hotels, interesting architectural sites, and many other attractions for the whole family. Health care is also good, but fees may be high, so take out travel insurance early.

Holidays Adventures

Diving (Cancún Underwater Museum) and other water sports are trendy in this country. You’ll need to take an exciting route to see some of the best places to visit in Mexico. This can be as much of an adventure as an adventurous one.

There are balloon tours for those who love the outdoors (Flying Pictures Mexico, Sky Balloons México, Aerodiverti, Volare), hang gliding, paragliding, and ziplining.

There are also hiking, cycling, or horseback riding tours (ViveValle). For those who like caves, visit the Grutas de la Estrella, the Rincón de Parangueo, the Cueva de las Serpientes Colgantes or the Cueva of the Serpentes Caves.
