  • Ferry from Puerto Rico (Ferries Del Caribe).

Culture and art

The culture of the Dominican Republic is a fusion of African, Tahitian, and Spanish cultures. From here comes the famous passionate dances: bachata and merengue.

The Dominican fine art is as vibrant and dried out as the Dominican climate.

The Baroque style is evident in the architecture, as many buildings have survived since the colonial era.

As for literature, it had an excellent development in the 20th century. Famous writers like Juan Bosch, Pedro Mir, Mateo Morrison, and others were born here.

Cuisine

In Dominican cuisine, as in the case of the culture, a trace of African, Spanish, and Thai cuisines can be seen. On the locals’ menu, there is a lot of meat, poultry, eggs, fish and seafood, pulses, starch, fruit, vegetables, a lot of rice, and bulgur.

Also worth mentioning is Dominican rum, which has made a name far beyond the country’s borders. Mama Juana, a drink made from a mixture of rum, wine, honey, and tree bark, is found in the Dominican Republic. So when you Dominican Republic vacation, be aware that it is an alcoholic beverage.

Other popular drinks include soft drinks, cocktails, and freshly squeezed juices.

Popular Dominican dishes:

Juré en mi corazón no pensar ni ocuparme sino en procurar los medios para probarle al mundo entero que teníamos un nombre propio, dominicano, y que éramos dignos de llevarlo.
